Helping the REP Give Back

My husband and I (pictured on left) have been supporters of San Diego REP for a very long time because we strongly believe in its mission of producing intimate, provocative and inclusive theatre. It is a place for the community to come together to consider and discuss important subjects that affect our lives. Not in a position to become major financial donors, I looked for another way that I could help the theatre continue its good work. In a program for one of the REP’s productions, I read about a need for volunteers and thought that maybe that was my avenue to help.

For the last 20 years or so I have done a variety of things as a REP volunteer, including data entry and processing ticket donation requests for not-for-profit organizations to use for their fundraising events. Each season, the REP offers groups of four ticket vouchers to qualifying not-for-profit organizations. Most recent voucher recipients include education, healthcare and human service non-profits. In 2019, I estimate I approved more than 750 requests! I spend about three hours a week processing these requests, and by doing so, am able to free REP staff to use their creative talents to do other necessary tasks. If you know organizations who might want to take advantage of the program, visit www.sdrep.org/ticket-donation.php and fill out the online form. I will be the one processing the request, and if approved, will mail the vouchers!

I love coming into the REP every week. The staff always make me feel like an important part of the REP family, and I feel like I am making a positive contribution to the organization.
