Behind-the-Scenes for 'Before Fiddler' with Hershey Felder

"Traditions march on....

 

As we prepare for the premiere of our newest piece BEFORE FIDDLER - featuring myself in the role of famed Yiddish author, Sholem Aleichem, accompanied by the Klezmerata Fiorentina, made up of four virtuosi from Florence's Symphony Orchestra the Maggio Musicale, herein, as promised, are some images from our first day of filming.

 

When I promised patrons that this season would feature such a piece, I did not realize that only a few short hours from my front door, on the Italian Riviera, is Nervi, a favorite seaside resort town of Sholem Aleichem. In my original conception, locations of old Florence were to double as Ukrainian Kiev and neighboring towns. Fate, as it mystically happens, intervened, and we have been able to set the whole piece to emanate from exactly the spot that Sholem Aleichem himself sat and wrote in a small enclave overlooking the sea.
