In the Gallery: Art from Baja to El Barrio
Opening Reception Saturday, November 12 6:30–7:30pm (prior to the 8pm show)

David Silvah has become a world class artist on both sides of the border. His art has been shown in galleries, hotels and the homes of fine art collectors. “I am the idealist who dreams of changing the world one t-shirt at a time…” Chikle started out as a silkscreen t-shirt maker and has morphed into a leader in the exploding Barrio art scene. In the few years that Selina Lugo has been painting, her art and style has become recognized as a force in the local art movement showing in local galleries and art spaces and in her native Sacramento. A tattoo artist by trade, Chuy Espinoza sees the hidden (not really) images that haunt kids after they fall to sleep. Chuy’s art is a cross between Walt Disney and Hannibal Lecter and will make you crack up and cringe. Eric Serra is a photographer who can go from wedding to fashion and fine art photography. He has mastered the art of the lens and knows how to bring his vision to life. Meet the artists at the opening reception!

Talkin’ Theatre with Todd

How is directing a musical different from directing a play? Four of San Diego’s most accomplished musical theatre directors join REP Associate Artistic Director Todd Salovey for an intimate discussion. Sam Woodhouse has directed musicals such as Trailer Park, I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change, and The Threepenny Opera; Cygnet Theatre’s Artistic Director Sean Murray's recent hits include Little Shop of Horrors and Sweeney Todd; Javier Velasco has choreographed many hit REP musicals. He directed the REP’s Cabaret and Moxie’s sold out Toughest Girl Alive; James Vasquez directed the Old Globe’s Rocky Horror Show and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. This award-winning, amazingly gifted group will share insights and war stories on what it takes to send you out humming the tunes!

Sam’s Salon: The Great American Mac ’n Cheese Tasting Contest

Trailer park foodies know that mac ’n cheese is a MUST for Thanksgiving dinner. Just in time for your turkey day meal plans, Artistic Director Sam Woodhouse hosts a Mac ’n Cheese Tasting Contest. Judging the contest will be Ron & Devora Eisenberg of Great News Cooking School in Pacific Beach, and Chef Rich Sweeney (former executive chef at Confidential Restaurant and Season 5 contestant on Bravo TV’s show, “Top Chef”), now of RGang Eatery in Hillcrest. They will reveal their favorite mac ’n cheese recipes and preside over a tasting contest (with samples for guests, of course), exercising their superior palates to rate the success of hot mac ’n cheese dishes delivered direct from the oven to the Lyceum lobby (by Café Chloe, Prospect Bar & Grill, RGang Eatery, Urban Solace and West Coast Tavern.) Mmmmmmmm.

Friday, November 18 @ 7pm (prior to the 8pm show)

Friday, December 2 @ 7pm (prior to the 8pm show)
Darlin’ and Rose

Darlin' and RoseDarlin’ and Rose, taking a traditional approach to whiskey-soaked ballads and honky-tonk jams, performs neo-traditional country and blues. Darlin’ and Rose are Sylvester E. Bowen, the owner of a popular guitar shop in San Diego, and Nisha, an actress/musician who grew up playing the guitar and performing her own country songs. Recording their eponymous debut in 2001, the duo quickly became a hit because of their raw, honest approach to a genre that had been associated with stylish, mainstream pop songs. A year later, “Tomorrow, Yesterday” won them accolades from the underground traditionalist country scene that had sprung up in the wake of the alternative country boom of the 90s.
