Discover New Education Programming at the REP

San Diego REP along with corporate partners Qualcomm, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price are proud to launch new Education Programming for our new season. Due to the ever expanding gap in Arts Education provided to young people, the REP is resolved to make a deeper impact in the learning lives of San Diego youth. After discussions with youth and educators we envision an arts education program that:

  • Supports all young people in finding personal meaning, growth, and education through the theatre.
  • Links the action on stage to learning in the classroom through standards driven curriculum that any teacher in any subject can use to enthuse their students about learning.
  • Draws students in as audience members, and engages them as volunteers, interns, and ultimately life long theatre supporters and/or professionals.

In the 2009-2010 Season we will:
  • Create targeted year-long partnerships with a minimum of 20 (15 low income/low performing) schools in the region focusing on low performing and low income schools.
  • Provide a minimum of 60 educators with curriculum, in-class presentations, and engaging learning tools.
  • Engage college and high school students in paid internship experiences.

Opportunities for Teachers

San Diego REP sees teachers as our strongest link to a new generation of theatre lovers. To help educators make theatre an integral part of learning we offer:
  • The Educators Club | Email lists serve to promote curriculum, arts opportunities, and invitations to our free Partner Preview Night.
  • Partner Preview night | Come and see what the REP is all about, hear of new productions, and find ways to engage your students in the Arts.
  • Production Curriculum | Each of our plays has a curriculum packaged designed to assist teachers in making our productions more relevant in the classroom
  • Project Discovery Student Matinees | Provided at a reduced cost, these full productions give students a professional theatre experience in downtown San Diego.

Opportunities for Students

San Diego REP values young people and believes that students off all ages deserve to see professional theatre as a part of their educational life experience. Services for students include:
  • Project Discovery Student Matinees | Provided at a reduced cost, these full productions give students a professional theatre experience in downtown San Diego.
  • Behind-the-scenes theatre tours and discussions with actors, directors, and artists.
  • Curriculum to make the play in production more relevant to classroom work.
  • Intern and volunteer opportunities to work in professional theatre.
  • Discounted student rates for colleges and universities.
